William and Kate started the day by planting an English oak tree at the National Arboretum amid lush terraced hills and forests overlooking Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin.
They were helped with the planting by young twins, Sebastian Lye, who has Down Syndrome, and his brother Oliver.
After the planting, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory, Katy Gallagher, showed the couple around the arboretum.
The second engagement of the day for the young royal couple was a reception at Australia Parliament House in Canberra.
They were met by Prime Minister Tony Abbott and his wife, Margie Abbott and presented to senior politicians including Speaker Bronwyn Bishop, Senate President John Hogg and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.
Other attendees included members of Australia’s House of Representatives and Senate, diplomats, and members of the armed forces, as well as prominent Australians, including Lord Of The Rings actor David Wenham and former cricketer Glenn McGrath.
Before leaving Parliament House, the Duke and Duchess signed the parliamentary guestbook and then headed to the National Portrait Gallery, for their final public appearance of the day.
After Kate received flowers from three year-old Wilameena, the royal couple were met by National Portrait Gallery of Australia Chairman Dr. Helen Nugent AO and gallery director Angus Trumble. They then toured the gallery and met artists who have produced some of the gallery’s most celebrated works.
The Duchess of Cambridge looked elegant in a bespoke emerald green dress coat by Catherine Walker. Her knee-length dress coat features a high neck with a zip at the front, a broad belted waist and a full A-line skirt.
If you’re looking for a similar, ready to wear frock, you might consider Catherine Walker’s ‘Evelyn’ dress. Price is by request.
You may recall that Kate wore Catherine Walker at the start of her tour, when she touched down in New Zealand. She wore a red dress with military buttons down the front.
The Duchess teamed her coat dress with her trusty ‘Sledge’ nude shoes by L.K. Bennett, her emerald and diamond earrings (still UFO) and her sapphire and diamond engagement ring. She let her hair loose in soft curls.
