Just hours after William and Kate touched down in New York, they attended a glamorous dinner at the £10 million apartment of British advertising tycoon Sir Martin Sorrell (his personal fortune is estimated at £174 million) in New York’s fashionable Gramercy Park district.
Only thirty hedge fund managers and financiers were invited to the ‘private’ event, which started with cocktails at 6.30pm and was followed by dinner.
No-one has been charged for the privilege, but it was expected that those present, who are known as some of the city’s wealthiest men and women would lavish large donations on the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. The charity supports causes as diverse as youth opportunity, the environment and injured service personnel.
Fans gathered outside the apartment block to see the royal couple go into the dinner party.
The Duchess chose a short, black lace cocktail ‘Amara’ dress by one of her favorite British labels, Beulah.
The off-the-rack fit and flare dress is from the designers Spring/Summer 15 collection and will retail for £650. It is available for pre-order on the Beulah London website, but be aware that there is a 10 to 12 week wait for the pretty frock.
