It was a ceremony replete with symbolism, and the national focus for commemoration. Yesterday, the events in Whitehall were mirrored around the country as Britain came to a stop at 11am.

On the strike of 11, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired a gun in Horse Guards Parade signalling two minutes of silence. The Queen laid her wreath in the centre of the top step of the Cenotaph and was followed in strict order of precedence by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and the Duke of Kent.

This year was particularly significant as Britain marked three major landmarks: the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, 70 years since the D-Day landings, and the end of UK military operations in Afghanistan after a 13-year conflict that cost 453 British lives.

Some of you may have noticed that the Duchess of Cambridge and the Countess of Wessex are wearing very similar coats (at first glance, I even thought they were the same). You are correct! Both coats are by Alexander McQueen.

Thanks to ‘My Small Obsessions’ on FB for pointing out the differences between the two. Kate is wearing the long version with pockets and Sophie (the Countess of Wessex) is wearing the shorter version which is designed with pleats in the front and the material has a soft sheen to it.

Beneath her wool coat, there is a black ruffle detail peeking out. A follower on WKW pointed out that it could possibly be the same dress that the Duchess wore to a luncheon in 2011. The dress is still UFO.

The Duchess of Cambridge made her way around and chatted to guests in the gardens. All members of the royal family in attendance made every effort to walk to different areas of the grounds so that they could speak to as many members of the public as possible, and later rejoined at the royal tea tent.

Kate shopped her closet and opted for her bespoke, slim-fitting, nude lace shift dress with a white sheath underlay by Alexander McQueen. The dress had full-length sleeves, an accented waist, and ladylike knee-length hemline.

You may recall that the Duchess had previously worn the frock to the St Paul’s Jubilee church service in 2012. The only noticeable difference was that the ribbon belt had been removed.

Trooping the Colour originated from traditional preparations for battle. Colours, or flags, were carried, or “trooped”, down the rank so that it could be seen and recognized by the soldiers.
In the 18th century, guards from the royal palaces assembled daily on Horse Guards to “troop the colours”, and in 1748 it was announced that the parade would also mark the Sovereign’s official birthday.

Kate Attends the Kelaart — Heathcote-Amory Wedding

For the first time since returning home from her South Asian tour, Kate stepped out to attend the wedding of family friends Thierry Kelaart and Patrick Heathcote-Amory in Nettlebed, Oxon.

Joining the rest of the Middleton clan at St Bartholomew’s church, The Duchess witnessed the nuptials.

Once again, she shopped her closet for her wedding attire. Kate donned the same pale grey silk dress with an embroidered floral motif by Erdem she wore for the Trooping the Color ceremony back in June.

The Duchess accessorised her outfit by adding a simple, but elegant white hat to her ensemble, a silver clutch (still unidentified) and her favourite beige patent LK Bennett “Sledge” court shoes.

Finishing off the look, Kate wore her Azuni London Semi Precious Stone Drop Earrings (£22.50).

A note on Kate’s clutch

There has been wide speculation that Kate’s clutch could be a modified version of the Alexander McQueen clutch posted above. I have contacted McQueen and will post any updated information when I received it.

Update 9/30/2012

Kate’s hat has been ID’d! It is by Jane Corbett. Per her FB Page:

‘How lovely to see HRH The Duchess of Cambridge wearing one of my hats at a wedding on Saturday, a soft grey hat with organdie trim that I embroidered to match the dress…..I so enjoyed making that particular piece!’

Kate & Wills Attend the Nuptials of Alice St John Webster and Gerald Alvene

On Saturday, William and Kate attended the wedding of Kate’s Marlborough College friend Alice St John Webster to Gerald Alvenel.
The wedding took place at the picturesque St Mary’s Church, in the village of Bishops Lydeard, near Taunton.
Kate looked stylish in a summery pink floral £490 (currently on sale for £415) silk dress by London-based brand Beulah. It’s the ‘Blossom’ knee-length frock with long billowing sleeves, and thin tie around waist.

The Duchess teamed her dress up with the white-crea Jane Corbett hat she wore for the Order of the Garter service last month.

Kate completed her outfit with two items that have become staples in her wardrobe over the past 12 months: her LK Bennett nude Sledge heels (£175) and her LK Bennett woven straw Natalie clutch (£140).
We close this post with a picture of the bride and groom.

Kate Recycles her McQueen Coat for Garter Day Celebrations

Kate, along with the royal family, took part in the historic Garter Day service. The event was held at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on Monday (June 18) in Windsor, England.

Founded by King Edward III in 1348, the Order of the Garter is the country’s oldest order of chivalry and the last remaining honour to be given at the discretion of the sovereign.

The Duchess of Cambridge recycled her cream double-breasted Alexander McQueen coat-dress(£2,290)  that she wore almost one year ago to Trooping of the Colour Ceremony. The sculpturally tailored cream cotton and wool-blend piqué coat accentuates Kate’s fine form and features a tiered Samurai skirt.
We can only guess on what Kate is wearing under the McQueen coat-dress and the consensus seems to be the Reiss Peacock dress that she wore to the Epsom Derby last year. Whatever dress she chose, it had a fuller, frillier skirt giving the coat added volume.
As for her headgear, The Duchess chose a matching cream hat by Jane Corbett.
Kate accessorized with her LK Bennett’s nude Sledge heels (£175), her LK Bennett woven straw Natalie clutch (£140), and her Kiki McDonough green amethyst earrings.
