This morning, William and Kate welcomed the president of Singapore and his wife Mary at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London, on behalf of the Queen to the United Kingdom.
The royals greeted Dr. and Mrs. Tan in their presidential suite where they posed for an official photograph and then sat down for tea surrounded by sweeping panoramas of the London skyline.
The Cambridge’s met the Singaporean leader and his wife for the first time in September 2012 when they traveled to Singapore as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour. On a side note, President Tan is the first Singaporean president to make a state visit to the UK.
After tea, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge escorted the Tans, by car, to Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall for the ceremonial welcome with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh formally greeted the foreign leader and his wife at Horse Guards Parade where Dr. Tan inspected a guard of honor of 96 servicemen and officers from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.
After the parade, everyone traveled back to the Palace in a carriage procession. The Queen travelled with Dr. Tan in the first carriage – the Diamond Jubilee State Coach – and Philip with Mrs. Tan in the second carriage – the Australian State Coach.
Wills and Kate followed in the third carriage, which was the Scottish State Coach, along with Grace Fu, Singapore’s second minister for foreign affairs.
The Duchess wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen grey check coat dress with a full skirt.
The grey check pattern is seen in the designers Spring Summer 2015 collection.
Kate’s hair was pulled back into an elegant low pony, paired with her matching grey, bespoke fascinator created by Jane Taylor Millinery. We last saw this head piece at a private Easter Sunday church service in Australia in April 2014.
In her hands, the Duchess of Cambridge carried a new black suede ‘Roxy’ clutch by Jenny Packham (£378).
