Nine-week old Charlotte was christened at a short, intimate ceremony attended by just 22 official guests including the Queen, Prince Philip, other close family members and Princess Charlotte’s five godparents. The service was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Right Rev Justin Welby, and supported by the Reverend Canon Jonathan Riviere, the rector of the Sandringham group of parishes.

The christening had a historical link to Diana, Princess of Wales as the church is also where her christening was held on August 30, 1961.

Princess Charlotte was christened with the ornate 174-year-old silver gilt Lily Font (the bowl is a large, open lily bloom, hence its name, and it is decorated with lilies, ivy and cherubs) filled water from the River Jordan where Christ was baptized. For the first time ever, the Lily Font was brought to Norfolk from the Tower of London where it is usually on show as part of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London. Alongside the Lily Font was a christening ewer, made of solid silver and similarly gilded, which dates from 1735 and was made for the christening of George III.

The font, which dates back to 1840, was commissioned by Queen Victoria (she paid £401 10s) to prevent her family being tarnished by association with the illegitimate children of Charles II. Since then, it has been used for almost every royal christening (we know it was not used at Princess Eugenie’s christening).

After the short half an hour service, the royals began emerging from the church and made their way back to Sandringham where guests were treated to sandwiches, tea, and slices Princess Charlotte’s christening cake. which is one of the eight tiers from the fruitcake served at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011.

New Photos (Taken by Kate) of Prince George & Princess Charlotte

@KensingtonRoyal on Twitter

On Saturday night, William and Kate released four official photographs of Prince George and Princess Charlotte together. They were taken by the Duchess of Cambridge who has broken tradition by stepping behind the lens, using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II (1,999.99).

dpreview.com

The snaps were captured in mid May at Anmer Hall, in Norfolk when Princess Charlotte was just two weeks old.

@KensingtonRoyal on Twitter

Kensington Palace said the photos were being released as a thank you for all the support they had received following Princess Charlotte’s birth on May 2.

@KensingtonRoyal on Twitter

As a further gesture of gratitude to the public, the first of the photographs was released ‘exclusively’ through Kensington Palace’s official Twitter and Instagram accounts. The entire set, containing four images, were released to the press an hour later.

The series of pictures shows how much the new siblings have bonded. Cradling his sister on his knee, Prince George holds Charlotte’s tiny hand in one photo and in another he gives his sister a kiss.

Rachel Riley

Prince George wore a classic white shirt with blue piping detail around the collar, cuffs, and front with matching baby blue turn-up cord short set by Rachel Riley ($159). The shorts feature an elasticated back waist, and are attached to the shirt with pearl effect buttons.

This was the same outfit the little Prince wore to visit his newborn sister at St Mary’s Hospital.

Princess Charlotte wore a hand-knitted sweater (€85) and chemise (€58) in ‘bone’ from an exclusive children’s boutique called Irulea in San Sebastian, northern Spain.

Charlotte could also be wearing a pair of matching hand-knitted bottoms with feet also by Irulea.

A Few Notes

One of the new snaps has a striking resemblance to a photo that was taken of Prince William holding a baby Prince Harry taken in October 1984.

Another black-and-white portrait of Prince Charles kissing his sister Anne 65 years ago taken by society photographer Sir Cecil Beaton is similar to the fourth photo of George kissing Charlotte.
A Garbled Tweet

Minutes after the official photographs of Princess Charlotte were tweeted, a message containing a random series of letters and spaces was posted on @KensingtonRoyal on Twitter for their followers to see.
@KensingtonRoyal on Twitter
The tweet was quickly taken down but eagle-eyed royal fans are now questioning whether Prince George had been playing around with an aide’s laptop, phone or iPad? More likely than not, it was just someone sitting on the device as George was probably fast asleep (photos were released at 10pm London time).

May Updates!

Since Kate is on maternity leave and has asked the press for privacy, I don’t expect there to be very many sightings. However, there are still some loose ends to tie up from the birth of Princess Charlotte, designer profiles and Repli-kates from my own wardrobe. Stay tuned…

Many have inquired about what the newborn princess wore when she left the hospital, we finally have all the details.

Princess Charlotte wore a hand-knitted bonnet in ‘bone’ from an exclusive children’s boutique called Irulea in San Sebastian, northern Spain. The high-end children’s and home goods store was opened by the current owners’ grandmother.

No two bonnet’s are alike as each one is locally hand knitted. They are made from white and cream wool – called ‘bone’ by shop owner Ayajo Villar.

Maria’s mother bought the bonnet (€ 55) as part of a three piece set which included a sweater (€ 85) and booties (€ 35) all made in ‘bone.’

An interesting fact we have learned from the owner is that little Charlotte wore the bonnet backwards. The part that surrounds the face should be on the neck, however we still think Charlotte looked beautiful.

Princess Charlotte was covered in an ivory white ‘elegant soft wool baby shawl’ by G.H.Hurt & Son (£68 currently sold out but available for pre-order).
